Ladyhawke (1985)
directed by Richard Donner, starring Matthew Broderick, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Rutger Hauer

Lovers are cursed by an evil bishop, but the spell can be broken (of course), if one can only guess the meaning of the riddle. Isabeau and Navarre (Pfeiffer, breathtakingly beautiful, and Hauer, ruggedly handsome) are aided by a young thief, Philippe (Matthew Broderick), who steals the show with his humor and his growing respect for and commitment to the lovers and their plight. The cinematography of the ending scene is worth the wait. You'll love it!

Ever After - A Cinderella Story (1998)
directed by Andy Tennant, starring Drew Barrymore, Anjelica Huston, Dougray Scott

In this version of the classic fairy tale, Danielle (aka Cinderella) is aided by Leonardo da Vinci rather than a fairy godmother. A delightful romance, pure and simple. If there is anyone who doesn't find Drew Barrymore absolutely charming and a welcome relief from the "too skinny, too pretty" actresses we're faced with everyday, there's something wrong with them.
Robin and Marian

Robin and Marian (1976)
directed by Richard Lester, starring Sean Connery, Audrey Hepburn, Nicol Williamson, Robert Shaw

One of the classic romances of all time, beautifully acted by an all-star cast. In this version of the tale, a "mature" Robin returns from the Crusades to find Marian has taken the veil and the evil Sheriff of Nottingham is bent on ousting the nuns from their abbey. All the usual Robin Hood shenanigans ensue, along with a tear-jerker ending. True romance at its finest.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000)
directed by Ang Lee, starring Chow Yun-Fat, Michelle Yeoh, Zhang Ziyi

Set in medieval China, this incredibly beautiful movie captures the most breath-taking martial arts action yet filmed. The acting is perfect, the cinematography is enchanting, the special effects awesome. The story is more about the role of women, personal honor, and the sacrifice of love to the martial-religious life than the quest for a special sword. Don't miss this one.
Legend - Ultimate Edition

Legend (Ultimate Edition) (1986)
directed by Ridley Scott, starring Tom Cruise, Mia Sara, Tim Curry, David Bennett

Tom Cruise on a quest to save his lady love from the evil lord (Tim Curry, of course). This edition of the cult classic includes two complete films: the original theatrical release with the Tangerine Dream music and the director's cut with the original Jerry Goldsmith score. Everyone loves the unicorns. A must have for fans of this dark, visually busy film.
The Princess Bride

The Princess Bride (Special Edition) (1987)
directed by Rob Reiner, starring Cary Elwes and Robin Wright, with cameos by a whole bunch of other funny famous people

Lowly stableboy Westley pledges his love to Buttercup and becomes embroiled in the pursuit to rescue her from a variety of nefarious scamps. Slapstick and serious swordplay combined with light-hearted romance. Superb casting and direction, very witty screenplay (by William Goldman, author of the novel). A sure winner every time.
